The purpose of valve maintenance is to ensure that the valve is clean and well-lubricated all the time. Besides, the purpose is to make sure the valve has complete parts and is in the normal operating state all the year round.
Valve cleaning
The valve surface, the trapezoidal thread of the valve stem and the stem nut, gears, worm gears, worms and other parts are prone to be stained with much dirt such as dust, oil stains and residual stains of media, which will lead to wear and corrosion of the valve. Therefore, it is of great importance to keep all parts of the valve clean, especially the outer casing and moving parts of the valve.
Valve lubrication
For the trapezoidal thread of the valve and other moving parts, good lubrication is needed to reduce mutual friction and avoid wear. Some parts of the valve are specially equipped with oil cups or chokes. If they are damaged or lost during operation, they should be repaired or new ones should be installed, and the oil passage should be cleared. Lubrication parts shall be oiled regularly according to specific conditions.
Matters needing attention in valve lubrication
1. Valves frequently opened and with high temperature are suitable to be oiled once a week or month.
2. For valves which are not frequently opened and have low temperature, the cycle of oiling them can be longer. Lubricants include engine oil, grease, molybdenum disulfide and graphite.
3. High temperature valves are not suitable to be oiled with engine oil and grease, the loss of which will occur due to melting at high temperature. Thus, those valves are suitable for being injected with molybdenum disulfide or wiped with graphite powder.
4. For naked parts needing lubrication, such as trapezoidal threads and gears, it is easy for them to get dust if grease and other oils are used. Molybdenum disulfide and graphite powder are ideal choices for lubrication, for they are not easy to get dust, and the lubrication effect is better than grease.
5. It is not easy to directly apply the graphite powder to the valve parts to be lubricated. It can be blended into paste with a little engine oil or water.
6. The plug valve is sealed by injecting the oil. The oil should be injected according to the set time, otherwise the valve is easy to wear and leak.
